The Pennington Work Crew Strikes Again

Oh my goodness y’all.  That was the most exhausting weekend I have had since I can remember.  We all, every single one of us, worked ourselves to near collapse. Well, maybe not the little boys.  But even they worked hard.  I was real proud.

Friday through Sunday we were outside working by 7:00 AM and we stayed out as long as we could considering the heat was pretty bad.  When I tell you it was a sweat shop around here, I mean that literally.  Quite a few of us stayed out all day past sunset.  There was a lot of work to be done.

James and his crew worked on tearing apart our horrible little pump house in the backyard.

They refaced it and I mean to tell you…I can not WAIT to show you the finished product.  They still have to finish the doors, but then I will unveil what may possibly be our best junk/free project yet.

The younger boys worked on tearing out rocks and dirt from a mess of a patio we have on the back of the house.  Noah and I repainted the front porch floor.

Gee that sounds so simple.  “Repaint the porch floor.”  It was a huge job.  There were rotten boards to be replaced and old paint to sand off and the whole thing was so filthy that we thought we’d never get it clean.  But we did it and it look a-mazing.  Again…the after shots will have to wait because I was too tired to unload pictures from my camera.  These are all from my phone.

You know me.  I couldn’t just paint the floor.  I had to add all kinds of details and extras and we’re not quite finished.  I’ll show you this week.  Let me rest my sore muscles for a minute first.

You can be sure Sonic had a good weekend since we picked up drinks or Blasts every time we made a run to the hardware store.  It kept me going.

But it wasn’t all work and no play.  Some friends came over at 4:00 last night and we had a blast just sitting around shooting the bull.  That’s what we do in Texas.  It’s fun!

This morning I’m off to the orthodontist and several other, non sweat related errands.  I’m just glad to be standing upright instead of bending over with a paintbrush all day.

But I’ll probably still stop at Sonic.  After all of the support they offered me throughout the long, hard weekend it seems I owe them a debt of gratitude.

What did you do last weekend?

  1. Can’t wait to see all the “after” shots. I’m sure we will be blown away by the projects. You have such a wonderful chain-gang, dear. 🙂

In our neck of the woods, Joshua’s Eagle Scout project was a large part of Kregg and the boys’ weekend, while wedding projects were my main focus. We are down to FOUR DAYS!!

Hope your non-sweating errands give you a chance to rest up.

  2. We had kind of a laid back weekend compared to yours!

It was just as well, my sweet husband who did not have a day off for three weeks, had 2 1/2 days at home! Of course my 20 year old daughter, shot an arrow through our a/c unit and we had no air conditioning on the hottest day of the year so far! Seriously…it banked off the target and right in between 2 slats on the unit. She couldn’t have done it on purpose if she had tried!

Don’t know yet when it will be repaired – we may just put a whole new unit (this one is 10 years old) that is more energy efficient. That costs the big bucks so we will see – God knows and is already working on our behalf!

  3. Can’t wait to see the after pictures!! We worked in the yard too, I finally planted some flowers in my flower pots. Yeah!
    Blessings friend,
    Cyndi

  4. Can’t wait to see the end results!

We planned a day trip to see my mother-in-law, and other of hubby’s family. It turned into a day and a half because of unexpected severe weather… interesting when you have 7 children and two adults and aren’t prepared for an overnight. 😉 But, it was fun, and all turned out well.

  5. What troopers you have! I bet they learn so much with a mother and father like you two. What a blessing!
We removed a load-bearing wall to make our kitchen much bigger. We have 5 children and a son-in-law and grandbaby now. And with the in-laws coming over for holidays we needed the room. We need to cut a hole and put in the sliding glass doors, but this will have to wait after graduation.
We also spent a wonderful day with some friends on Monday.
Thanks for the upcoming pictures of your adventure.
    By Grace Alone,
    Kim
