Summer is Fast Approaching

It was a long, tiring weekend.  James and I worked at the FEAST bookfair in San Antonio.  We were volunteering for THSC, our friends in battle for homeschool rights in Texas.  It wore me out.  I don’t think God created me for jobs that require standing for 9 hours and being friendly to everyone that passes by.

Then yesterday we continued our efforts to improve the backyard.  It is coming along slowly.  This is probably because our entire workforce is made up of children.  Things tend to start off fine then turn on a dime.  One minute we’re digging up an old flower bed and the next we’re sword fighting with the shovels and falling over laughing.  When I say “we” I mean that loosely.  I don’t do much sword fighting.  I mostly kill the moment by shouting, “Boys!  Stop playing and work.  If you work quickly you can have lots of battles after.”

Right now it looks pretty dismal out there.  Wood piles and dirt everywhere.  If I didn’t know better I would get depressed over nothing getting done.  But this isn’t my first rodeo.  I know that all of a sudden it will seem to just come together and start to look great.  Patience my dear, patience.  I have to keep telling myself that.

All this week the backyard will be our focus as we push to have it done by Blog Chat on June 9.  I am so excited about this mini-conference!  If you are in Texas I hope you’ll think about coming….we have spots still available.

Today I am going to work outside early then start school around 11:00.  As the heat of a Texas summer looms upon me I am starting the schedule of being outside early then staying in the A/C for the rest of the day.  I’ve already started my craving for Sonic ice.  It’s a summer tradition.  James goes to town every day and he asks me, “Do you need anything?” and I reply, “The usual.”  He knows what that means.  Sonic ice, if you please.

Have a great week!

  1. I have to have Dr Pepper in my Sonic ice! 😉 Sword fighting seems to be a way of life at our house too…. Oh, and I hope to go to the THSC conf next year — I’ve heard lots of great things about it!!

  2. Sword fights & gardening… you mean they don’t go together??? Glad it’s a battle I don’t fight alone!!! LOL!!! And Happy Hour at Sonic is my favorite time of the day… Diet Dr. Pepper with vanilla please! 😀

  3. Oh, Lisa, I wish you hadn’t posted that picture of Sonic ice! Before we got a fridge with an ice maker a couple of years ago I would buy a bag of Sonic ice at least once a week. It is the best..so crunchable (is that a word?) Your picture brings back memories : )
    Blessings,
