There’s not enough Kleenex in the World….

It’s amazing how quickly things can change.  One day you’re happily humming a little song and skipping to the beat and the next day you are nursing a fever and blowing your nose so much that you wonder how there can be any snot left in your head.

A few of the kids started feeling it on Monday and by Tuesday morning most of them were lying anywhere they could find in the living room.  Then yesterday it hit me and I went down.  I keep rubbing my hands all over my face to relieve the extreme itching and last night I wondered if it was possible to die from sneezing.

I felt a little sorry for Patience.  She was the only kid that didn’t catch it (update, Patience is sick today) so all of the cooking and dish washing fell to her (I helped, but was busy keeping up with the other cleaning and serving sickies).  It was really good for her.  With 3 older sisters she doesn’t ever get the chance to put her skills to the test.  She made soups and breads and she kept the kitchen sparkly clean.

Every few hours I’d go around smearing everyone with Thieves and reminding them to drink plenty of water.  I am sure they are all thinking, “Thanks Mom.  Without you we would have no pleasure in our lives and probably die of dehydration.”  But they don’t say it.  They mostly just groan their appreciation and gesture for me to move because I am standing in front of their movie.

The good news is that the cold seems to be pretty short lived.  Those that had it on Monday are feeling better and we expect to be back in full swing by the weekend.  No big deal really.  It was basically a school holiday coupled with a 3-day long movie marathon.

Today the well ones are washing sheets and airing out the house while Patience and I take our turns clutching boxes of Kleenex and watching old movies.

But we’ll be all better tomorrow.  I just know it.  (enjoy it friends, it’s a rare occasion when my Pollyanna attitude comes out)

You all stay well!

  1. I wonder if I should tell you I’m making potato soup this morning… I could up my recipe slightly and drop eleven servings by if it would help.

Praying you’re all better very soon.

  2. Glad your having a break from the other sickness that has plagued your family! And glad and grateful for your sakes that this virus is short lived.

Your daughters are getting real life training – they will not be in shock when babies don’t sleep all the time and kids get sick….they are well ahead of many of their peers.

    God Bless You!

  3. We have a similar drama playing out in our home. I remember thinking last night how quickly life goes from moving along at a fast pace to I don’t think I’ll ever feel better again…ever.

  4. I have a little whose been sick for a couple days and I just posted about what I have learned thru the (short) years of sick days… It’s nice to see the kids step up and serve others!!! Hope ya’ll feel better soon!!!

  5. Oh, happy sniffing and snotting, and blowing, and sneezing. We’ve had a bit of it here, and have loved the snuggling up for extra long in the mornings, and for afternoons with movies 😉

    Ahhh, the joys…

  6. We all know that Pollyanna lurks inside you – that’s what makes your grumbling so entertaining. Plus, you have a houseful of kids – pretty loud statement that everything will be okay!
