The Holiday Mantle

by Lisa on November 30, 2011

I finally finished the mantle.  It’s like a Christmas miracle!

I stayed up until the wee hours on Sunday finishing our stockings.  I just couldn’t spend the whole season sewing stockings for other people then end up with nothing.  I may be a lump of uselessness most of the time, but when I put my mind to something you better watch out.

I am madly in love with them.

I hate to be a complainer, but the gorgeous stockings made it kind of hard to decorate the rest of the mantle.  I mean, how do you top that?

I rummaged through everything I have.  I’d put something up, we’d all stand back and look, everyone would say it looked nice then I would take it all down and start over.  That’s my method.  The family enjoys it.  By the time I finished, this is what I came up with.

My favorite is the bucket tree.

But I also love the vintage flash cards that I hung in a frame.

The little trees are from Target.  I ripped them out of their stands and put them into these pitchers that my friend Leslie sent me.

I also got the nativity from the Target dollar spot.

It was too small and plain, so we added a brown paper backing and Faith made me a glitter stand for it.  You don’t think it’s wrong to put baby Jesus on a glitter stand do you?

Speaking of glitter, I fell in love with this little bird….so sweet.

All of the greenery came from a tree we have in our yard.  That was my friend Sara‘s idea….thanks Sara!  In looking at these pictures, I can see it needs more.  I’ll be getting Jacob to clip more off of the tree today!

This last picture is my favorite shot of the mantle…..I’m titling it, “It Started with Two.”

Thanks for letting me share my Christmas mantle with you.  As soon as I get the rest of the house finished I will take you on a tour.

Have an inspired day!

It’s absolutely breathtaking! My favorite things– aside from the gorgeous footwear (ahem) — are the flashcards. I spotted them in the first photo but couldn’t decipher what they were. They are adorable!

And a BUCKET TREE? Love the colors and creativity of that.

But I can’t have people watching me. I have to wave my creativity wand alone. Yeah. I’m weird.

Beautiful, Lisa!

Love, Love, Love the stockings…and that bucket tree! Clever!

I don’t have a mantle but I love seeing what others do with theirs! I do have shelves and I think of them as mantles….

They are hard to top – very nicely done!! I really like the bucket tree – although, I don’t think my hubs would go for something like it. :(

Bucket tree is genius. So glad you got your stockings done – If you’d made stocking for the rest of the Etsy world and neglected your own kids I was gonna have you brought up on charges. That’s how much I love you.

Lisa…I love it!
You clever thang! Bucket tree!!
I actually picked up the $2.50 glitter manger scene YESTERDAY when I was at Target!
I think I’ll go back and get it. I do love it.
The stockings are now hung, by your chimney. With care.
I love the use of the little pitchers, can you mail them back?

I love the stockings…and I immediately thought about the future when the kids marry and start having families…you will need a wall for all the stockings (or more mantels)! And it all started with Two. Thanks for sharing your beautiful decorating, it is inspiring!

Stopping by from One Month to Win It, these stockings are great, man I wish I could sew :) But, my favorite is the bucket tree, I’m going to be looking for those buckets all year now to make one next Christmas! Thanks for sharing.

I am in love with your mantle! I want to come stroll through your house-no, I want you to come decorate my house! :) Those stockings are absolutely wonderful! And glitter speaks to me…I have a glittered nativity, but it is a little different from yours. Lovin’ the glittered bird! And I agree, that last pic of the stockings is beautiful. I’m going to be pinning some of these to Pinterest!

Gotta say, I love that the girls get ruffles on their stockings and the boys don’t! Too cute! And I love me some glittery Jesus! I have actually been on the look out for a nativity that I think would go well with my colorful Christmas decor…and yours is pretty cute! Visiting via Rhoda’s party!
