Getting Things Done

We spent Columbus Day in the way it was intended…..eating snacks and watching a Dick Van Dyke Show marathon.

We got a little bit of rain over the weekend, which is a blessing.  But the dark, dreary weather always makes it hard for me to function.  I kind of roll from recliner to couch and back to the recliner.  The kids hang around me wherever I am, which I enjoy.  Usually.

I didn’t completely waste my time.  I filled a few shop orders yesterday afternoon and I contemplated making some brownies.  But when I went to the pantry for the ingredients I realized that I was missing a few and I definitely was not up to actually leaving the house.  Make-up and hair styling were not on the agenda for the day….so the brownies would have to be sacrificed.  The men in the house do not understand this concept, but any of the girls will nod in agreement.  All women know that if you haven’t put yourself together by noon then you won’t be going out that day.  I’m sorry if we are out of toilet paper…..I didn’t make the rules.

The coming week is light and easy…just the way I like ’em.  We’ll work on school projects and maybe, if it’s not raining again, I will get a few little things done around the house.  For weeks now (OK, I confess it’s been about 6 months) I’ve been meaning to pull the range out and clean behind it.  I catch glimpses of the ugliness occasionally when I pick something up off the floor (OK, confession again….I don’t actually ever pick things up off the floor.  Why have kids if they don’t pick up things for you?) or drop something between the cabinet and the range.  I keep putting it on the to-do list, but it never gets done because some other job that we can see without bending over always comes first.  Dirt we can’t see tends to get bumped to the bottom of the list.

But this week I am going to do it.  What always gets me about these kinds of jobs is that they take about 10 minutes and they’ve been bothering you forever.  Like clipping out those annoying ribbon things they put in your shirts to keep them on the hanger but they creep out your sleeves or your collar when you are in public.  I finally had it with those things last week and went after them with a pair of scissors.  In about five minutes the nightmare was over.

Now I just need to get one of the kids to go in there and pick up all of the ribbon pieces off of the floor.

Have a wonderful week.

  1. I am so there with you my friend. It rained non-stop for 2 whole days here! I was like a slug. I couldn’t get motivated. We go back and forth between Dick Van Dyke and The Andy Griffith Show. Love them both.
And you’re right about fretting over a job that usually only takes about 10 mins. You waste more time fretting then you do actually doing the job. But sometimes it’s more fun to fret and talk about not doing it and stuff.
Well I hope you have a more productive day today. I’m actually doing pretty good and it’s not even 1 yet. Yay, me!
    HUGS!

  2. When they’re done at your place, send them to Manila, please and thank you.

Uh, is the wall and area clean behind the stoveS yet? Two?

I want to figure out a way to put ours on casters. It’s from Italy, so, duh. Dunno if that will be happening.

  3. Oh, that is classic – my kids know that I *might* drive to sonic for happy hour cherry limeade without hair and makeup, but anything else, they are out of luck 😉

  4. This soooo made me laugh! I can be the biggest procrastinator….and I’m an efficiency enthusiast…so I sometimes feel a bit guilty asking my currently compliant 4 yr old to do lots of little things for me…but hey… love your logic! It never ceases to amaze me how much I LOVE a clean fridge. why don’t I do it more often? who knows!

  5. We just finished watching the entire Dick Van Dyke show on Netflix instant streaming. All 161 episodes. Not in one day or weekend, but over the course of a few months. It’s been fun. Now we need a different old series to watch.

  6. I somehow came across your blog and I love it! Although I only have one child and he is grown and on his own, we still share many same interests. I so enjoy reading a blog that will make me laugh out loud. Yours does. Thanks!
