Friendship

In going through my reader I ran across a post from Studio Jewel about friendship.  She wrote about treasuring a special friend.  I love that.

It made me stop and think about my friends.  I have some amazing friends and I know they are a gift from the Lord.

Even though they are weird.

A few of them might say that I’m weird, but don’t believe it.  I am the only normal person.  Anywhere.

Some have decided that I am not someone they want to have a friendship with.  That stings.

The Bible has much to say on the subject of friends.  Not all friendships are easy or even pleasant.  But they are all in our lives to grow us closer to God.  His Word gives us guidance in managing difficult relationships.  I just LOVE that I have a way to know what to do when I am hurt by someone else.

That’s the good news.  The bad news is that when I go to the Scriptures to see how to deal with a difficult person He leads me to my own heart and shows me ways I need to change.  WHAT?!  I’m the normal one, remember?!

I don’t get to get fix everyone and turn them into what I want.  I don’t get to pick the speck out of my brother’s eye.  I must deal with the plank in mine.

Some of the people in my life draw me closer to God by their example and their life and their love.  Others draw me closer to Him by making things difficult, causing me to hit my knees in prayer.

Either way, I’m grateful. (but I might just give an extra little squeeze when I hug the ones the first kind)

“Greater Love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:13

  1. You really are weird! Ummmm, I mean you are exceptionally normal as normal goes. I love you to pieces and can’t imagine not being friends with you!!!!

  2. Jesus called Judas “friend.”

Our precious Lord has endured every single type of “friend”-ship there is. I, too, am so glad I have an Example– The Best. I know His Name.

And I have His Instruction Manual.

  3. I have a small number of dear friends ‘in real life’, but I have to tell you… I am SO thankful for some online friends that God has placed in my path. No kidding, they’ve been such a blessing to me 🙂

As for being normal? I have that wrapped up. Someday the rest of the world may follow me 😉

  4. I believe that there are friends for each season of life. But then there are the ones that are there for all the seasons and stick around through thick or thin.
Oh and I’m pretty normal myself. Oh yeah!

  5. I have lots of acquaintance friendships, but few really deep ones. I treasure those, and do love my more casual friendships too. I too, think that all our relationships help us – when we are looking to be “exercised” by them.

Did you head out on that road trip with your daughter?

    Thankful for your heart.

  6. So very true. And I do treasure my best friend, she IS a gift from above!

All friends are a treasure…but true friends, godly women, will see what needs reproof in your life and call you out on it. Yes it hurts, but it is a beautiful thing, I promise to be gentle 🙂

  7. Oh!! How wonderful to meet a kindred spirit!
I’m the only normal person I know too!!
Just kidding, I loved your blog, I can see much od my own heart reflected in your writing.
    Thanks for the fun visit:)
Blessings to you today from Shirley in Virginia

  8. My Mother and Grandma and I always like to say, with tongue in cheek, “If everyone could just be like us!” 🙂 Friends are a blessing. I have contemplated recently how each friendship has its own qualities and how there are different levels of friendships. I also think that part of a great friendship is the memories you share together!
