Round Top, Texas

Tomorrow I’m heading to Round Top, TX with some girlfriends. It’s only the greatest flea market EVER! There’s junk, there’s overpriced stuff, there’s one-of-a-kind pieces that I can’t live without. It goes on for miles and miles.  There is also a section of very upscale flea market shopping, Marburger Farms.  I love to look around there.  $10,000 dressers and $300 Christmas ornaments are a bit out of my price range, but I get loads of ideas.  My friend Sara and I are getting “press passes” because we are bloggers.  That means I can take my camera around and snap pictures of the lovelies for you!

What I cannot do is roll my ugly old Canton cart around there.  Seriously, it looks like something a bag lady would be pushing down the street.  You can’t see it in the picture, but there are holes all over the liner.  Nice.

I can’t be a super cool press-pass-blogger if I’m dragging that around.  So the kids and I gave it a make-over.  I had half a can of black spray paint, a burlap coffee bag that my friend Gina gave me, twine and some floral fabric that I got out of a clearance bin a couple of years ago.  This is how it looks now….

While I cut open the sack and sewed some fabric to the top, Patience made a bag to hold my camera.

and a smaller pocket for the back

Elijah wrapped the ends of the handle with twine.  I can’t tell you how happy that makes me.  The handle kept slipping around, so we put duct tape on to hold it in place and twine to make it fabulous.

Now at least my cart will look good.  I can’t guarantee the rest of me will be as fine and dandy looking.

If you will be at Round Top tomorrow, Tweet me and maybe we can meet for some Tornado Taters.

  1. Tres chic!! (and I think I own that very same “liner”… we use it for laundry and it is equally full of holes!! socks have started escaping…)

Have a wonderful time!! I can hardly wait to see what all you pick up!

  2. Oh, have fun! Much as I would’ve loved to hit Round Top with y’all this year, my budget man would most likely have a heart attack at the suggestion, lol! Can’t wait to see what you come back with 🙂 (and, more importantly, what you DO with it!)

  3. Hey….have a blast! My mom and her 3 sisters (and several others)drove from CA with a Uhaul trailer (hehe) 11 years ago (they love antiques). Great stories came home with them….and a wedding present….a beautiful side table that I’m rather protective of. Enjoy yourself!

  4. I need to go and try to find an iron double bed for my daughter’s room or two twins for the boys, but I can’t see dragging my kiddos with me to Marberger;). I always forget when it’s that time and I seem to have missed both shows for the last two years! Have fun!
