Fall Living Room

Fall Living Room

Y’all will simply not believe what I have been up to.  I got another one of my hair-brained ideas and became crazed to make it happen.  Once I get an idea that fits all of my criteria I run with it.  What is my criteria, you ask?  This is it: free or very cheap, original, not tacky looking (I don’t always accomplish this one) and can be done in a weekend or less.

I got the idea to paint a Scripture on my living room wall.  I don’t know where it came from, but I had to try it.  Today I just want to show you the fruits of my labor.  If you want to know how I did it, you can read my tutorial.

You remember the frame over my couch that I change out every season?  Last year I had silhouettes in it, before that clocks, I’ve had flowers and butterflies… and most recently I had beadboard with vintage badminton rackets.  Now it’s all changed again.

I finally got my white slip cover for my green couch!  Yahoo!  Leslie and I made a trade.  I did some monogramming in exchange for a slip cover she didn’t want any more.  It fits my couch perfectly!  Thanks Leslie!  I went to my favorite store, Me & My House, and got just a little fabric to recover some pillows for the couch.  I needed my favorite salesgirl/decorater, Grace, to help me.  She pulls me out of my ruts and drags me away from the same stuff I always want to buy.

These pillows make me feel the way John Denver felt about sunshine on his shoulders.

Each season I use my true love, the Cricut, to change the decal on the platter on the piano.  Bye bye bicycle, hello fall tree.

But let’s talk for a minute about the big project….it took me two days to paint all of these teeny tiny words on the wall.

The frame is actually empty and the wall behind it is painted white.  All of the words are just painted straight on the wall and I LOVE it!  The little wreath gives it the little bit of dimension and color the wall needed.

Another view….

and this….little grapevine pumpkin (sing it with me) looks so ♪ LOOOVE-LEEE! ♪….

Here’s the other side of the room, Levi insists that his Build-a-Bears live in the chair behind the door.

Have I shown you the little footstool I made with a milk crate? I just turned it upside down & made a cushion.  It’s one of my favorites.

Now I am going to just go in there and sit…and rest my arms which are sore from painting itty-bitty letters on the wall all weekend.

Then I will take off again with my next crazy idea.  I can’t stop myself.

  1. This is incredible! Is that your handwriting? If so I am completely and totally impressed!! Mine looks like a chicken ran through ink!!! LOL

I think this is my favorite idea so far….. I know my husband is just going to “love” me having another “project”, ha ha!

Hope you are having a great week!!

  2. you are an absolute GENIUS my friend!! That big long feedsack pillow on the other couch. Did you make that?? I need to shop your house sometime….

  3. You painted it? By hand? You want to take a trip to Minnesota and do the same for me, right? :)

    You are amazing!!

  4. WAY TO GO, YOU!!!! LOVE IT SO MUCH! :)

  5. You are SO right that it looks completely different, but it’s gorgeous! I’d like to take credit that you got the idea to do handwriting on the wall from me – but I can’t. I DO have decals on my walls. Are your eyes or neck hurting? It’s beautiful. You have such a God-given talent for all this beautiful stuff!

  6. Wow! Absolutely beautiful and how inspiring! Love it!

  7. LOVE it! It’s amazing!

  8. I loves it muches! Really, you painted every single word? It’s not a stencil? Of course that bear lives in that chair, just like my son Jake’s backpack lives on the couch.
I was just about to sent you a message asking you to help me (tutor) in making a slip cover for my ratty old couch that I can’t ever get rid of (future blog post in the making!) and then you burst my bubble, it’s all Leslie’s fault. But seriously, I want to make a slip cover and just can’t seem to visualize how I can pull that off. I can sew, it’s the cutting and piecing that get’s me in trouble.

  9. Love it! Psalm 90:17 is going on my sala wall… In a bold and beautiful way. I’ve done tons of wall words since 1991 with stencils I make myself or using an overhead or LCD projector. The projectors are soooo much easier than cutting out all those stencils.

    Love, love, love it!

  10. What a great idea! I love it! And even better, I love that it was a hair-brained idea that you followed through on. And just look at it! Such a meaningful focal point.

  11. Wow, what an amazing amount of work! But it looks like it was totally worth all the effort, because it’s beautiful!! Great job!

  12. Love it! Want to come decorate my house?!

  13. The wall looks great!! Your whole room is really pretty. It looks so cozy. And that milk crate stool is brilliant!!!

  14. Wow, what a fantastic job, there is no way I could paint that many words onto a wall and have them all looking so neat, no wonder your arms are sore!
    Your Autumn look is fabulous!

  15. I really love this and will be watching for the process post. A friend of mine did Deuteronomy 6:4-9 in her foyer. I loved it and have always wanted to copy it.

  16. This is my favorite livingroom redo yet! LOVE it! You really inspire us all!

  17. Okay, I just love this and want to do this to My living room wall now, but, I need to know if you wrote all the words out in chalk first or did you free hand them? How’d you get them all soo perfectly straight? Painters tape? Laser level?

This would a great backsplash in the kitchen too, with my favourite recipes. Oh boy!

  18. Wowser!! This is gorgeous. I will be featuring you next week. I will remind you the night before. Thanks for linking to Thrifty Thursday.

  19. Love that it looks so simple on the wall – nice color choices. And I love that plate with the black tree!! Alas, I have nothing crafty to share, but I’m stopping in to follow through the hop anyway – Hope you can stop by soon and return the favor :) http://www.shaunanosler.blogspot.com/

  20. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. {Deut. 6:9}

It’s lovely & I pray it’s an inspiration to you and your family each time you glance at the wall!

  21. Wow, wow, wow, that is just beautiful. Don’t think I’d have the patience for that!

  22. No way! I can’t believe it. Holy smokes. And that milk crate stool? Love, love, love it! Thank you so much for linking up.

  23. Like some of the other commenters, I reckon this may be one of the most awesome projects yet. I am gobsmacked.

  24. Your living room is so gorgeous and cozy. Looks like a wonderful place to be. I can’t believe someone had a slip cover that fit your couch! Great trade, well done.

  25. So pretty and cozy! I love it.

  26. CAN’T wait for the how-to! I have wanted to paint a subtle tone on tone like that in my (6 yr old) daughter’s room since before she was born and I have never done it! I thought I would use my husbands projector. Your whole living room is fabulous (Build-A-Bears included!) 😉 The plate idea is so cute. I have to get a plate for my piano now. Amy Callahan actually suggested 2 yrs ago that I paint my piano turquoise…not brave enough yet (it is the piano my husband learned to play on).

  27. I enjoyed your room and I love the milk crate footstool.

  28. Hi …I just wanted to say this is lovely. You should be proud of your hard work!

  29. We have the same sofas – and now we have almost the same slipcovers for them! I love the itty-bitty words on the wall. I admire your bravery, to paint on the wall like that! It looks great!

  30. If I could tap into just a 1/10 of your creativity I would feel blessed. Lisa, this is spectacular!! Really, pinning as soon as I get home. I don’t know where you get these ideas but you need your own store. You could rival Me & My House. no doubt. So incredibly awed by you. Again.

  31. it just gorgeous!!!!!

  32. Love your living room with the scripture on the wall!! That must have been quite the job, but your labors were well worth it. Amazing! I’m going to pin this to my pinterest board for “perfect living spaces”. You can see it there under shabby karen
    Blessings & hugs,
    Karen

  33. Let’s see if the comment thingy likes me now.
You always inspire me Lisa with all the ideas you come up with!
I love love love this idea!
I just found a 3o” X 48″ black frame at Hobby Lobby. On Clearance, well, clearanced many times, it was $105.00 but I waited and waited and it was finally $5.50!
I bought it hoping to do something really terrific with it in my office. Now I know what it will be…a copy-ish cat of yours, only, I am going to have Emily or my Sarah paint a Parisian-type post card inside it directly on the wall, with the frame around it.
I’m not going to put Scripture on the wall, only because we are getting the house ready to sell. But in our next home, I will!
    You rock.
    And so do Levi’s Build-a-bears.
    :)
P.S. I Pinterested this, by the way!

  34. Yay! It liked me!

  35. WOW! And I really mean WOW! That is the most amazing wall. I can’t believe you did that. It looks fabulous!! Thank you for joining TTF and have a fun weekend!

  36. oh man. now i’m really ashamed that you came to my house to see bare walls and a crooked living room.

  37. Woa… you had me at the wall! It’s exquisite! I love so many other elements in this room like that ladder and large picture frame on your lettered wall. What a fabulous space!

  38. Ah-ha! I KNEW I wasn’t the only crazy person out there. You painted your piano, too… Whew! Actually, yours is the second one I’ve seen in the past couple of weeks. Maybe, me, you and The Turquoise Piano should start a club.. SO glad to know I’m not alone. I love your wall; it’s beautiful.

  39. Seriously seriously seriously — you painted all of the words of those verses BY HAND on the entire wall????? That is just about the loveliest thing I’ve ever seen!! Love the picture too!! I AM pinning this although in all my wildest imaginings don’t ever think I could do this!

  40. That is gooooorgeous! I get excited whenever I see a new blog post from you in my reader.

  41. WOW! Your living room looks like a picture from a magazine! Perfection!

  42. It is fabulous! My girls and I are memorizing from James…I need this wall in my house :)

  43. Oh my…so very, very lovely! I especially LOVE the word wall and the foot stool…so clever! PS…I have a little Levi at my house too :) Happy Sunday…blessings, [email protected]

  44. Lisa, You are so creative and I love that you think outside the box. Your living room is beautiful and I love the stenciling. The new slipcover is wonderful and what a cute footstool (that I plan on copying).
    Hugs,
    Sherry

  45. Absolutely love everything you have done- So many creative ideas and things I would never have thought of- true inspiration

  46. I love your wall of words. And the footstool is a great idea. I wish I could sew that well. I can make a square pillow cover and a square window valance. Maybe I need to take a class to make three dimensional things.

  47. I LOVE your living room. Everything about it is wonderful, plus your Fall touches are amazing. The painted piano is great, as well! I’m a pianist and haven’t had a piano at home in years (thankfully, I have access to several pianos and organs on which to practice!) I really really want to get another piano, but it has to fit in with my frenchy/shabby chic decor and brown wood won’t do!

Hope you’ll pop over for a visit!

  53. Your room is so chic! This looks like it is out of Country living Magazine or something. Thanks for sharing it at Wow.

  54. Gorgeous! I love the Scripture wall and the grapevine pumpkin.

  55. Oh my words, when I saw this over at Common Ground, I thought your sign was pretty, but I guess my bad eyes couldn’t see the verse in small writing. If that’s your handwriting, it’s gorgeous, and I would imagine you are having arm cramps right about now. Your whole room is beautifully fall-i-licious!

  56. This is absolutely gorgeous. I love the words on the wall.

  57. You have so many interesting elements in your living room. Very creative. I love your style!

  58. This is AWESOME! I’ve been stumped on what to put on our mantle for years! NowI just gotta figure out the frame. Great job!
