Weekend Wrap-Up

So many visitors, so little time.

Saturday I spent the day with a sweet friend.  She’s been having a rough time and it was wonderful to get to spend some quality time together.  When I was going through hard times she was there for me.  Isn’t that the real measure of friendship?  Being there when the other is suffering, then listening and loving.  I have had so many fair weather friends throughout my life.  But God has also blessed me with a precious few that are lasting and trustworthy and I value them better than gold….better than CHOCOLATE.

My girls were so sweet to play dolls with her little girls, the boys were engrossed in Lego wars and Grace watched her 2 year old.  She and I just talked and sat.  And sat.  And sat.  Every few hours I’d have to go to the bathroom and when I got up my legs would be all stiff.   What is it about sitting all day that makes me so tired?  You’d think I’d feel rested, but I felt like I was going to fall asleep any second.  This leads me to wonder if that’s the only reason I stay awake during the day.  I’m like a shark – if I don’t keep moving I will die.

Sunday my parents came for a visit.  They live too far away in my opinion so we don’t see them as often as we’d like and we love their visits.  Although my Dad did indicate this morning that he was up to here (with his hand held up to his receding hairline) with Fire-Man.  I can understand.  You see, Fire-Man is a superhero that Adam invented and he talks about it constantly.  Fire-Man can change himself into a campfire and is the grandson of Batman.  Fire-Man’s wife, Water-Wave, is the granddaughter of Adolph Hitler.  It is becoming clear why my parents don’t want to live nearby.  Dad, I make you a solemn vow….if you will move closer I will promise to douse Fire-Man with water (his weakness).

The height of the weekend came on Sunday night with a heavenly community choir service.  My four oldest kids and I have been rehearsing with about 60 people from different churches around the community since the beginning of June and it was spectacular (in my objective opinion).  Unfortunately, James’ FlipCam abilities are limited so his recording of Jacob and I doing a solo together isn’t great.  Hopefully I will locate a better version and show it to you.

I hope your weekend was equally spectacular…all friendship and worship and no Fire-Man.

  1. Such a neat post! And so many comments to make….

First — we have a whole cast of various Light Boy, Cloud Boy, and too many more to list. What is it about boys and the super heroes they create?? But isn’t that creativity awesome?!

Second — I think a solo with 2 people is called a duet 😉 and I would love to see it if you find a good copy to share! What a treat that would be!!

Third — love that you got to visit with so many folks, *and* am happy to hear that you also suffer from “sit still/fall asleep” syndrome. I get so drowsy if I’m just sitting!! Not badly enough to be an actual problem or disorder or anything, but I always wonder…why can’t I stay awake??? I’m enjoying the company, what is wrong with me??? So, glad I’m not the only one.

  2. Wow! Sounds like a wonderful weekend with family and friends. That’s my kind of weekend! We had a great weekend too, it just goes by too fast!
    Blessings friend,
    Cyndi

  3. Regarding your good friend comments: my parents always told me that in life I would have many aquaintances (defined as one’s slight knowledge of or friendship with someone), but only a few true friends. It sounds to me that, like myself, you have found that to be true. True friends are precious!

  4. Hey, I’m a shark, too. I fall into a coma when I quit moving. LOL!!

Glad you had such a lovely time with your friend. How precious. Also with your parents. Mine live in town, so I get to see them often. Actually all of my family and hubby’s family live in town, so we pretty much see them all through the course of a week, which is nice. It hasn’t always been that way.

Love The Reader’s comments about the duet. Of course. ROTFL!!! 😉

What a blessing that the performance went well. It would be great to see it here in the interweb.

  5. Little folk and their made up characters are so funny. My Sarah has an imaginary friend who still makes the occasional visit, her name is Abby. She for a while had many Abby’s including one with pink hair that lived in Florida. One day several years ago, Abby hadn’t been around for a while. I asked about her and Sarah said very nonchalantly “Oh, she died.” I was shocked and asked how that happened. She answered “Her mom pushed her off a cliff.” More shocked I asked why her mother would do such a thing. “I guess she was tired of her.” Woo boy. What an imagination!

Glad you got to visit with your folks. My parents live 20 minutes away and are starting to feel like it is too far to drive.

Have a great rest of the week.
