Summer Dresses

My friend Amy over at Raising Arrows has been doing a terrific series on modesty and wearing skirts.  I thought it would be fun to show how I dress everyday.

Believe it or not, I really, REALLY do not like to have my picture taken.  But when I started reading blogs I found myself wishing the writers would show themselves more so I could know what they looked like.  So I’ve stretched myself out of my comfort zone for your pleasure.  I’m selfless like that.

My girls and wear dresses and skirts only….no pants.  If you’re wondering why we do this, I’ve written more about that here.  This is a bit of what I’ve been wearing this past week.  In addition to our convictions on clothing, I have the added challenge of being a plus-sized gal (saying gal instead of woman somehow makes it sound better).

I wore this to run a few quick errands in town.  Seeing myself in this picture I realize I need to stick my pale legs out of the pool every once in a while.   Or get some spray on tan stuff.   My legs look like they’ve never seen the light of day.

I wore this when I was staying home.  It’s 2 pieces, comfortable and I can wear the skirt with other tops.

This day I went to a family birthday party.  It’s all separates that I mix with a lot of other pieces.

This last one is just a running around day.  I poked here and there getting what I need for my Big secret project.  This one is basically all about the shoes.

My girls look a lot cuter than I do and maybe sometime I’ll show you what they wear.  I’m linking over to Amy’s & looking forward to seeing what other women link and share.

  3. You have great style….I wear mostly skirts and dresses, (I do wear the occasional capri!) but non of mine are as stylish!

  4. A woman who feels genuinely beautiful in her own style, that’s you. You’re classy! I think I’ll be joining “She Wears Skirts,” but can I borrow your (a) porch? (b) photographer?

  5. Yay for modesty! I’m telling you, it’s REALLY hard here in So. Cal. to keep my son’s eyes away from the immodesty that surrounds us! Let me tell you, modesty is truly a passion of mine and many of my friends at church. Our sons and husbands have to fight DAILY against this battle here. It’s extremely difficult . I pray for them…and as sisters in Christ, we need to make church their refuge from the bombardment they have ALL week and exhaustion they feel everywhere they go, having to avert their eyes from buses going by, billboards, and even women in the hardware stores!!! So, it brings honor to God when we do everything we can to keep modest, especially at church.

  6. Oh, Lisa…you look so cute in everything! I wear jeans almost always (capris in the summer) because I feel most presentable in them. I used to wear mostly dresses and skirts…but as the pounds crept up, I reverted to the “safe” jeans as my daily uniform. Hmmmm….maybe I just need to be more creative… My 10-year-old daughter (who wears only dresses) would love it!

You, my dear, have an impeccable sense of style.

  7. Thank you for sharing! I’m following the Link-up to see what everyone wears! You all are such an encouragement to me on the journey of being a ‘skirt-wearer’! 🙂

  8. Great outfits! They look amazing on you! Thank you for being so selfless, and going out of your comfort zone for us! Visiting you via the link-up.

  9. Thank you for linking up @ The Modest Mom (both blogs share the same link up for this week)! You look lovely in every outfit, and I’m so glad you shared the pictures to inspire other ladies in wearing dresses.

  10. I just read your earlier post regarding why you dress the way you do. Loved it! It’s exactly what I do and why I do it, except you worded it a little more concisely and effectively than I’m usually able to.

  11. What pretty skirts! I love the way you dress them up – that’s something I need to work on more in my wardrobe! Thanks for posting! (and thank you for such a kind comment on my blog – it’s funny what you mentioned, because that’s probably the area I’m most self-conscious of. So your comment surprised me and touched me! 🙂 )

  12. Thank you for sharing! It is so encouraging to see a plus-size Gal looking so beautiful in skirts. Once I added on weight after all the births, I stopped wearing skirts because I felt so uncomfortable. Thank you for the inspiration! (following from the linkup)

  13. You look just beautiful! So often I think that some of the people look frumpy wearing skirts – but you look stylish & lovely! I think I need to come & get some clothes tips from you!
    Have a wonderful day
    Renata:)

  14. I just want to add I should have written I feel like I look frumpy wearing skirts, not make it sound like everyone looks that way – sorry it sounded wrong. Anyway you in no way look frumpy – just beautiful!

  15. It’s lovely to find other women who wear skirts all the time, so do I. It is also great to get ideas as well:). You look lovely and don’t worry about the white legs, I have them to and I live in Australia where everyone is tanned!

  16. I don’t normally comment on these things, but I had to tell you how much I loveyour sense of style. I stay home nearly all the time and just slob out because I’m not going anywhere except the garden and the kitchen! But you’ve inspired me. I would love to find some skirt/top outfits like the ones you’ve highlighted. They look lovely an comfortable. My husband would fall over! 🙂

  17. Love this!
And…it’s funny how much I love some cute flip flops to go with a fun skirt.
    But, one question?
Which skirt is the one that landed at your ankles in the Bed, Bath and Beyond parking lot? LOL

  18. Lisa, I want to thank you for showing that plus sized (gals) can look great in skirts! I loved the white outfit. Actually, they were all wonderful…as I knew they would be coming from a gal who seems to bring out the beauty in everything. Thank you so much for linking up!
