Thank You Dallas

I’m home from Dallas and a little groggy.  My kids keep saying, “Mommy, you’re falling asleep while I’m talking.”  It’s a little like those first days post-partum, without a new baby and sore bottom.  (I may have lost a few of you from that last statement.  If you stay, I promise not to say bottom again, at least not in that context.)

Dallas was amazing.  I met with three different groups of women and answered a lot of child training questions.  Over the next few weeks I will post the questions a few at a time and give some of my answers.  It was rewarding for me to get to meet these women and share a bit of their life.  Thank you all for having me.

We stayed the first couple of nights at my sister-in-law’s house.  It was great to see her family and my four nieces and nephews.  She and Sara (I traveled with my friend, Sara) ganged up on me a few times, which I am sure I didn’t deserve.  Sunday night I met with some of her sweet friends and we talked about what God has to say about obedience in our children and how to deal with difficult situations.  This was a neat group of ladies.  I really enjoyed them.

Monday afternoon I had the pleasure of meeting Bethany and her sweet little family.  She had a tea for me and some of her friends.  I was so honored and humbled.  Really Bethany, you are the cutest thing and your house is very warm and lovely.  She even bought me some Girl Scout Tagalongs, which in my language means “Here is gold, the most valuable thing on the planet, and I am giving it to you to eat.”

On Monday night we stayed with the hostess-with-the-mostess, Angela.  She could teach classes on making house guests comfortable.  She got me at the door with the smell of pumpkin bread baking.  She had a jar of cookies on the counter, beds ready for us ,chocolate and water bottles by the bed.  You rock Angela!

Angela’s homeschool group was a fun group to speak to.  They laughed my jokes, which is rare because my jokes are not funny.  We discussed everything from sibling relationships to dinner table etiquette.  There may or may not have been a small fire.  I fell in love with these women and hope to meet with them again some day.

We rushed home on Tuesday for our own homeschool meeting here in town.  We did, of course, make the obligatory stop at IKEA (which I refer to as the mothership).  But we could only stay there for about 20 minutes and then hit the road for home.  No stopping.  OK, except maybe at Dairy Queen for a Blizzard/bathroom stop.

I am so glad to be home today with my family.  The kids have been sitting with me and talking and catching up on all of their important stuff.  Like how much they missed my ipad and who had seconds for dinner and why they might need to go with me next time.  My voice is almost gone, which is what happens to me when I get really, really worn out.  So after a few minutes of chatting they wander off.

Now I need another nap.

That’s it for this post.  I’ve hit bottom.

  1. Sounds like a wonderful trip….we are headed to Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington this Saturday, I am very excited!! Hope you rest up and I can’t wait to see your questions and answers.

    Hugs,
    🙂 Heather

  2. It seems to me that only having 20 minutes in an IKEA store would be more frustrating than fun. And you can say bottom in whatever context you want and it won’t scare me off. When my children (I only have 7) get all modest on me about something I tell them, “Honey, I have seen parts of you that you haven’t seen. Don’t worry about it!” 🙂 I’m sure the groups you spoke to were very blessed. Look forward to hearing more about those discussions. This “old dog” can always use a new trick.

  3. I must disagree…your jokes were funny! And as for the word “bottom”…doesn’t hold a candle to the word Sara said! HA!!! Our ladies LOVED you and had nothing but nice things to say, but please don’t let it go to your head. Seriously though, we would love to have you back again. Don’t forget the Canton trip either.

  4. Antbed, you are right, 20 minutes in IKEA wasn’t easy. But we absolutely HAD to get back.

Angela, maybe we can do Canton and then your homeschool group meeting some time next school year. Since your meeting is on the first Monday and Canton is first Monday, it must be a sign from God. I washed Sara’s mouth out with soap as soon as we left your house. LOL! Thanks again for everything.

  5. Awesome trip. Sounds like you’re physically spent. I pray you were a blessing and returned with many of your own. Rest well.

  6. How fun!

I am preparing a message for my last Mom’s meeting as leader of our co-op. I am planning to touch on my top tips for homeschooling parents!

  7. Thanks so much for sharing at our meeting Lisa! You were a blessing and sent me into the next day with renewed parenting ideas and energy! I second Angela’s comment; it would be great to have you back!

(p.s. We discussed WordPress a bit before the meeting, and I wanted to send my compliments to you and your designer – your site is very pretty and user-friendly!)

  8. It was a really great weekend – and after hearing the same talk (nearly) three different times I learnt a couple of things. Plus I had an ab workout from laughing that lasted a good 3 days.

The host ladies (and guest ladies) were truly fabulous! I was so impressed at each home with their graciousness, hospitality and style.

In my own defense, the “word” I used is not slang…and 50% of the population has one. And truthfully – having one’s mouth washed out with a DQ Blizzard isn’t a real good consequence…

  9. I so LOVED getting to meet with you and talk to you! I hope that you will come back and talk with SELAH very soon! Thanks for all the advice on setting our kids up and first time obedience. We are not there yet but working on it! Thanks again!! Steph
