Ringing in the New Year with Darth Vadar

Last night’s party was so much fun!  We opened up our home, but the other ladies did all of the planning.  What a relief, since I spent the entire day making cookies with my girls.  What I skipped over during the Christmas holidays I made up for yesterday.

My sister sent my kids some Star Wars cookies cutters for Christmas.  When she told me about it I thought it was a good idea.  But after yesterday, I am rethinking my enthusiasm.

The girls just HAD to use them to make cookies for the New Year’s Eve party.  Thinking back, I’m not sure why we needed Star Wars cookies at our homechurch holiday party.

Into the oven they went.

Doesn’t everyone want to ring in the new year with Darth Vadar, Yoda, Storm Troopers and Boba Fett.

For the life of me I don’t understand why Boba Fett made the cut.  Really?  C3PO?  Chewbacca?  R2D2 for goodness sake!  I don’t even know who Boba Fett is.  But my kids do, “He’s a bounty hunter, Mom.  He’s after Hans Solo.”  Oh good….well as long as he’s someone important I may as well make a cookie shaped like him.

After looking on the internet for icing tips, we went to work.  This, five hours later, is what they looked like.

I’m serious.  FIVE hours to ice Star Wars cookies.  For a party that didn’t have a Star Wars theme. When my kids are grown and complain to their therapist that I never did anything for them I’m going to say, “Let’s talk about how my back still hurts from giving birth to you and making Darth Vadar cookies.”

Yoda (“Eat me, you will.”)

Storm Troopers

and my favorite bounty hunter

I complain because that is my way.  But the girls and I did have fun together.  We made two large platters of these cookies/works of art and they were a big hit with the kids at the party.  So all in all, I may never do it again, but it was worth it.

And Jenni, don’t even think about sending them the Star Wars vehicle cookie cutters.  I would never survive it!

  1. Wow! Those are some amazing cookies!! I didn’t realize they would be so labor intensive. 🙂

  2. Oh, my goodness…I was laughing at all those and what you said about bringing it up again later. Must’ve been fun to eat! My MIL had the kids make ginger bread houses at her house – I had them all dismantled two days after Christmas. I had them pick off all the candy they wanted and tossed them out because I didn’t want to keep them laying around here!

  3. That can go along with the time my daughter dressed up like Darth Vader for a church function. Yes. My daughter. She also wore green jeweled flipflops and carried a matching purse. With the Darth Vader get up.

  4. Those are some work! My boys would love those cookie cutters. If they knew they existed. Which they won’t, because I don’t want to decorate them! You did an amazing job – royal icing is no joke!

  5. Wow! That is a lot of work! You are a great mom!

My five year old got a lightsaber (blue as per his request) from my parents for Christmas…he loves it. He would have loved the cookies too. But I am not going to show him your photos or he will think that we should do that too! Self protection!

  6. You funny girl. You guys did a great job on the cookies and I give you major credit for knowing any of them– we are all pink, sparkle, horses, and princesses over here–my poor husband even the animals are girls. The girls and I tried to make oreo cookie pops over the Christmas break and let me tell you they were a flop and I felt the same as you after 5 hours and two trips to the store, we ended up with chocolate covered cherries, haha. Count down days………

  7. Dear Creative Cookie Drama,

Fun stuff! You guys are great. My husband loves Star Wars. Well, not to the point of some people. He mostly just remembers how he loved watching it back in the old days.

  8. You’re such a great mom! I would have sprinkled colored sugar on them, and threw them on a platter. No–actually, I would never have gotten that far—I don’t “do” roll out cookies–babd, bad mommy.

  9. I know how you feel Mrs. Pennington thats how my younger brothers are. After they build their new Star Wars lego sets they bring them and try to explain to me all of the characters and there impotance. I just nod my head and agree. LOL.

    Blessings,
    Kristiana
