A Plethora of Christmas Cheer

The holidays are so grand.  I love the festivity and hustle and bustle…oh dear.  Here comes a song….

♪ “It’s the MOST wonderful time….of the yeeee-ah!”  ♪

I’m singing with a New York accent today.

We’ve had such a nice time the past few days.  Yesterday the girls, Levi and I went to our friends’ to help them work on some wedding preparations.  It is a treat for Grace to be able to help her friend plan a wedding.  They kept saying things like “When one of your girls gets married, you should…….”

Oh no!  We are not going to discuss that.  My girls are just babies and will never leave their mommy.  They each promised me that when they were three and I’m holding them to it.

Today I am off to the big city.  A friend is having major surgery, so James and I will go sit during the surgery.  In fact, I have several friends having surgery in the next week or so.  I guess it’s that deductible thing.  We are among the uninsured of America.  I can now see the bright side of this….we don’t have to have surgery at Christmas time.

After she’s out of surgery and doing well, I will run errands.  Lots and lots of errands.  I am doing a sewing project for a friend that I can’t wait to show you.  No, I’m sorry.  I can’t tell you about it now.  You can trust me. You’ll love it.

Plus, thanks to you all, I have to monogram the chair in my bathroom.  Some of you have a strange sense of humor.  You want me to monogram things like, “Take a Load Off,” and “The Throne Room.”  Really?  What has happened to the dignity of this blog?  Has it gone down the toilet?!

As requested, I did list the “&” towel in my shop.  Which, by the way, you can still place orders and get them for Christmas.

Since we’re apparently going to drift from subject to subject today without any real direction, I have one more topic.  Gifts for men.  Any ideas?  What do you get your husband for Christmas?  How about a 19 year old boy that isn’t into material things?  I need ideas people….and fast!  And remember, we’re on a tight budget over here.

I need another song…..”Chestnuts roasting on an open fiiiii-yah…..”   ♪

  1. What a good friend you are to go sit and wait for your friend while they are in surgery!

I love your rambling posts best…it lets me see your humor which is great fun!

Having four daughters, I am understanding your feelings about future weddings…except I am looking forward to seeing them as wives and mothers too, so there’s the rub!

As to gifts for men…mine are the hardest to shop for. Tim usually makes me a list of tools ( his birthday is December 24th) that my parents, kids and I split up and he usually gets everything, because he never asks for much. My Dad is in the position that he doesn’t need anything, and what he wants he usually treats himself to. My older son…well, he needs everything so he is easy.

I would say for your oldest son, perhaps something related to film making…software, etc…
I know you have probably thought of that already….

I am not a source of help for you here, now am I?

  2. Males??? Wow, that is a subject that is near and dear to my heart! Yep I live in a house full of males! Little men, middle size men, and full grown men! Lets see… gift cards for coffee and iTunes using points earned on a credit card we pay off monthly (we do all bill paying and purchasing on this card but make a point to pay it off weekly… we use it like we would a cash envelope system.) Oh and also swagbucks. Each “man” in my family has a favorite snack/beverage so I make up homemade mixes in their own canisters. They used to each have their own personalized mugs but all have been broken over the years. Back rub/foot/head massage coupons… a lap quilt/blanket from old jeans/shirts. a homemade CD with favorite songs on it. a gift certificate to the used book store (a big favorite with our eldest). We have lots of food gifts… like candy, bread, chai tea mix, homemade marshmallows, candied orange peel.
I look forward to seeing all the suggestions you get! Enjoy!

  3. You have to buy gifts for men!?!

Well, you could always do the Compassion thing or Samaritan’s Purse. I got my hub a nice Waterman pen- I feel like such a grown-up now.

  4. 1. Write him a love letter. My man loves these.
    2. Give each member of the family five slips of various colors of paper. Everyone writes someone they love about Daddy on it and puts it in a jar. My husband LOVES his jar.

  5. You mean James doesn’t make it easy for you?? I’m glad Michael keeps a fully stocked wish list on Amazon, Westminster Books and Christian Books. Makes it easy for me to shop.

It was much harder for me to choose things I wanted and send him a list.

  6. Don’t ask me! We have really struggled this year!
For hubby I bought him a Clive Cussler book – cause he likes those, some new swimmer shorts and a long sleeved swim shirt, the two older boys are getting new boogie boards and snorkels, goggles and flippers. Now I know this is of absolutely no help to you when you live in Texas and it is winter, but in Oz we tend to focus our Christmas giving around summer items.
For my older ones we often end up buying something that needs replacing or they have grown out of rather than something new so to speak.

  7. I’m giggling at your NY accent! I can just hear it…

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the beautiful handmade gifts from your Etsy shop. I am SO glad I purchased these & I am SO excited to give them as gifts! They are all gorgeous. I hope everyone goes and buys one of those burlap Christmas ornaments right now. They are perfect, darling, & yet so simple they are elegant.

And the pillow cover I ordered is for my mom, naming her 5 grandchildren. She is going to love it! It is such a unique gift.

I’m going to post about the gift exchange my husband and I do. It’s FREE! And probably completely dorky, but we love it 🙂

  8. Oh I hope your friend is ok. My prayers are with her.

Men. You know my boys are very simple. My husband usually wants a plate of fudge that is ONLY his. My son when I asked what he wanted it was just one thing~and Santa is bringing that but from me he wanted to make banana bread. I imagine that your fella’s are similar. Kind. Simple. Just ask.

I asked the Fashionista and she said guys are all into the fedora hats and scarves. Both can be found at Target for not alot of money.
