Seminars, Fences and Goats. Oh My!

I’ve spent the past few weeks buried in the Scriptures.  Not a bad place to be.

It’s a funny thing, God’s Word.  Reading it every day has had an odd effect.  I am not so interested in TV, silly conversations or even (gulp) Diet Dr Pepper.

Maybe I should make a habit out of it.  Just a thought.

My preparations for the seminar tomorrow have brought me to my knees.  The enemy whispers in my ear, “You are not worthy.  Who do you think you are?  You will fall flat on your face.”

But then Paul’s words pass through my mind just as swiftly, “It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken. ‘With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence. All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.’ ” 2 Corinthians 4:13-15

The less worthy I am, the more glory God gets.  That means I don’t HAVE to be worthy.  Hooray!

In other news, our goats keep getting out.  Our fences are on their last leg and need to be replaced.  This will be a drawn out process.  We’ve had several, very official, family meetings about this fence project.  It’s been a topic of conversation for a couple of years (because that’s how long it takes us to actually start a project) brought to a head by the deputy sheriff knocking on our door and suggesting for the third time that we keep our goats out of the street.

We’ve chosen the materials and made the calls to find out where to buy what we need.  Next we’ll walk around the field marking where the posts go and arguing.  It is our way.

Rent a post hole digger, dig holes, buy posts, and so on.  Ugh.  I’m getting a headache.

Its a good thing that God gave us so many boys.  Less work for James and I.  Which brings us full circle in this rambling blog post.

I am so glad our boys want to help.  They are glad to do what needs to be done with no fussing or whining.  What a blessing that is.  Sons becoming men.

Goats becoming cabrito.  It’s all good.

  1. AHHH!!!! You EAT them? Am I understanding this correctly?! I mean, I know people eat them, but you’re not people! You’re sweet, lovely Lisa. 🙂 We’ve only had goats for pets so this is hard for me to imagine. Of course we’ve had chickens for pets and I eat those….. well I eat chicken, not OUR chicken! Oh my!

  2. We’ve been fighting our goats all summer too! First thing they do when they escape is eat up all the chicken feed. The next thing they do is poop it all out on our porch. Dadgum goats!

It IS amazing how God’s word influences us just through reading it. I’m sure you’ve got a lot to share with people at the seminar that will really benefit them and glorify God!

  3. Oh no Shannon! We do NOT eat our goats. But we do sell them to people that eat them. I couldn’t eat a goat. I could never eat our chickens either. We tied it once and everyone got upset. I’m with you on that 100%. Lisa~

  4. This has been so encouraging for me! God has been putting it on my heart to disciple a few women, but I have felt almost like I can’t because I am so far from perfect. He and I were just discussing it earlier today, and I told Him I’d do it, but felt really inadequate. Then I read your post, and I knew He had it in mind for me to read just today! Thanks!

I heard that curried goat is yummo.
I am sure that God used your gifts and the ladies were blessed by your heart.
Anytime we step out to honor Him, He gets the glory and we reap the blessings!
    Proud of you!
