Hay Bales and Black Pumpkins

I know I showed you my front porch already. But that was LAST YEAR’s porch. I finally got it done for this year, so of course I have to show that as well. I love each porch equally and would not want one to be jealous because they weren’t getting the attention they deserved.

If you walked up to our house this is what you would see….

Don’t ya wanna just sit and rock?

Call me crazy, but I just had to paint one of the pumpkins black.

So cute, right?

“A black pumpkin?!”  you say?  With words and polka dots.  Oh yeah!  I’m jammin’ the pumpkins this year!

It turned out so darling….I have thought about painting a few more.  But every time I mention it my family looks at me like I’ve lost my mind.

My dad reads my blog and I know he won’t understand the painted pumpkin.  I can just hear him, “If God meant for pumpkins to be black with polka dots….”  It’s  a flashback to fifth grade when I begged to get my ears pierced.  “If God had meant for you to have pierced ears then you would have been born with holes in your ears.”  (said in a very authoritative voice that will ground you for life if you argue with him…..which I didn’t do or my children might never have been born because I would still be in my room listening to Elton John on a record player).

I’m pretty sure God wanted this pumpkin to be black with dots.  It wouldn’t look so darn adorable if He hadn’t planned it.

I love this spot on the porch.  I could sit here for hours with my Kindle and a Diet Dr Pepper.

Bales of hay are so perfect for fall.  And for us they are useful….the animals will eat them when I am finished using them for decorations.  Don’t say it Dad.  God really does want me to use these hay bales for decorations.

I just know it.

  1. Crazy! But so cute. I never thought a pumpkin could be that cute. Your porch is so inviting. How is your dad doing? I’ve been meaning to ask. Haven’t forgotten about him.

  2. I love your black pumpkin! That’s the first one that I saw that made me want to make one. Did you spray paint it and free hand the letters? So cute!

  3. Oops! Jeanette, thanks for reminding me! I spray painted it and then used my Cricut and white vinyl for the letters and dots.

Shannon, Dad is doing pretty well. He says he’s starting to feel like himself again. Hooray! Thanks for asking.

You all bless me so much! Lisa~

So- that is so funny! I was sure only my Dad had this information? Ha!

  7. I can’t help but thinking of a retort like “Well, we weren’t born with clothes on, Dad, but God wants us to wear those!” … You’d probably still be grounded today for that one 🙂

One of funny one-liners that my dad used to say when we didn’t like our food mixed on our plate at dinner was, “It all mixes together in your stomach.” … It didn’t occur to me until I was an adult to say, “Yeah, but we don’t have TASTE BUDS in our stomachs, Dad!” Ahh well, I probably saved myself some trouble by not being witty enough for that reply at a younger age.

In any event, LOVE the black pumpkin. Does the paint preserve it for any longer, or cause it to decay any faster?

  8. Your post made me laugh out loud. Your porch does look very inviting. I will take an iced tea and a book as I don’t have a Kindle. Currently, reading Graham Greene’s The Power and The Glory. Want to join me? 🙂

And yes the pumpkin is cute and I am a sucker for hay bales.

  9. So funny about getting your ears pierced b/c my dad said the same thing, and I was in 7th grade before he gave in. Fathers! Love the black/white pumpkin and the turquoise pots.

  10. I love the black pumpkin with polka dots!!! You do realize that I am going to have to copy that idea, right?!?!? Your porch looks fantastic – I am envious that you have such a large one. Thanks for the inspiration!

  11. So darn cute! And yes, God did mean for that pumpkin to be black! BTW…I want that giant P on your wal…only I want an S, because a P would just be weird when your name is Snodgrass. ;o)

Meeting tonight on organization. It’s our 2nd annual “Choctoberfest”. I can feel my hips growing already! Thanks again for your thoughts.

  12. I am sitting here cracking up, because as I had just read about your dad saying, “If God had wanted…,” my hubby walked in the room, looked at the computer and said (in that typical male disbelieving voice), “Is that a black pumpkin with polka dots???” Personally I get it, and think it’s adorable! Most men will never get it.
