THSC Awards

Wow!

What a weekend.

It started with a fancy dress, a rented van and three of my friends.

But in my wildest dreams I would never have guessed where all of that would lead…..

We attended the THSC Awards Gala and Fundraiser on Friday night. We were all dolled up and ready for a night of listening to Governor Perry speak, eating fine foods and people watching. I thought it was just a night to experience something different….something out of the norm.

But I was being set up. I was in for a HUGE surprise.

James was there.  First surprise.

In a tuxedo.  Second surprise.

My wonderful Sister-in-law and her husband walked in.   Third surprise.

But the really big…..really humbling surprise was that James and I were the recipients of the THSC Leader of the Year Award.

I am telling you I was floored.  Stunned.  I never, ever in a zillion years would have thought such a thing. (zillion is too a word, I looked it up)

I’d love to show you pictures of James and I….or us with the governor……or us with our new, very close friends Tim and Lindsey Lambert.  But I was so out of it by the time all of the surprises happened that I didn’t get any good ones.  I do have a picture of me with James, but he’s making a weird face that looks a bit like he’s been taking pain meds.  So I will have to wait and see what the THSC photographer got.  Gee, I hope James looks sober.  Come to think of it….I hope that guy had a “skinny” lens on his camera!

It all happened so quickly that I didn’t get to make an acceptance speech, so here goes……

Thank you for nominating us.  We don’t deserve such an honor.  Our homeschool group is made up of wonderful, loving families that make it easy to serve as president.  To know that they would go to this much trouble is humbling.  They make my heart swell.  I love them each so very, very much.

I can’t imagine how it came to be that we were chosen for this award.  All I can think to say is to God be the glory.  We are His servants and the service itself is reward enough.  To be honored in this way is a privilege and we are so very grateful.

Thank you to the Texas Home School Coalition for your tireless work on behalf of the homeschool families of Texas.  You supported us in the dark days of last summer.  For that we can never express our gratitude enough.  I wish there was an award we could give you.  Our devotion and prayer support is what we have to offer.  You are now a part of our family.

I promise I will have pictures for you very soon.  But I couldn’t wait to tell you about my surprise weekend.

I still feels a little like it was all a dream.

A girl, a dress, a rented van and three friends.  You never know what’s going to happen!
