The Back Deck

We built this deck off of our kitchen a year or so ago.  Then we just tossed some chairs we already owned onto it and didn’t think about it again.  You now how it goes…no money, no time, other things to deal with.

The kids eat lunch on the deck almost every day, which is great (as in, no cleanup in the house).

As you can see, they just have to stand around and make due with balancing their plates on their laps.

I thought to myself, I’ll bet these two could make the deck look nice with things we have lying around.  (It looks like Faith is suspicious of my motives for taking these pictures)

“Hey girls, after lunch, why don’t you do something to fix up the deck.  You can use that old table by the guest house, the plants I brought home from Canton and any junk you know we’re not using.”

So they did….

Please ignore the fact that I haven’t painted the door trim.  I actually forgot about it until I was looking at these pictures.  Better go add that to the list.

They thought it would look nice to combine the metal chairs and the wicker chairs.  I like it!

A little spot to read and sip lemonade.

Look how clever, they used pine cones to add some charm to the table.

I love letting the kids go and do their own thing occasionally.  These girls will have their own houses someday and they need to learn to make it look nice on a shoestring.

  1. Like mother, like daughters. They did a great job! Little Emma is just five, but already loves to decorate and rearrange like her momma. Heart sigh….
