The Bookshelf

OK, it’s time to lighten things up around here.

Whenever I need to get my mind off of things I do what everyone does….I redecorate something. Huh? What do you mean everyone doesn’t do that? Really? But it’s so relaxing! How can this be?

Sadly for you, this blog springs from the inside of my mind so you’re stuck with it.

I’m sure most of you have left by now, but if you’re a die hard and you’re still reading….it does get better from here.

You may remember my big Labor Day bedroom makeover marathon. I completely redid my bedroom in four days. But there were a few things I wasn’t completely satisfied with. I mulled and toyed with different ideas. And over the past few days I’ve made a few, small changes. I’ll show you some of the others later, but here I want to talk about my bookshelf.

This is what it looked like right after the makeover….

Bad, right? I know. I didn’t like it either.

But I was so tired and I had other things to do (like raise children and do laundry) so I left it the way it was. My mom suggested switching the two white shelves. I did that and it helped. I took out the chest below the TV cabinet (which may have been her suggestion too…it all blurs together) and that helped even more.

But I still wasn’t crazy about it. So I added crown moulding to the short white cabinet and that’s when things started looking up. Really people…it cost less than $7 and took about 15 minutes. Don’t be afraid of crown moulding!

But then I realized what was bothering me. The books. They were too busy and colorful and loud.

So….this is where you see the extreme weirdness in my brain….I wrapped them all in brown packing paper. OK-OK. I paid one of children to do it. Same difference.

And I love it! Let’s see what you think.

The crown moulding made all the difference.

I wrote the names of the books on the bindings.

See the picture on the right? That’s our wedding day. 23 1/2 years ago. Yes, I was a child bride.

I tweaked a few other things in the room also.

Stay tuned for more…..”Insanity by Lisa”.
