The Open Road

I like to drive. A few years ago I piled the kids in the car and drove to Ohio. From South Texas. It was fun!

The trip I’m on now is much shorter. On Sunday I drove about 5 hours from my house to visit my parents. Tomorrow I will drive home again.

The kids and I talk and sing and play games. They have my full attention….except, of course, when I am paying attention to the road. But that’s just a technicality. I assure you I am paying more attention to them than I am to my driving. I know where my priorities should be.

If I start to get sleepy I just stop at the nearest Sonic for my secret weapon. A Diet Dr Pepper with extra ice. It keeps me going. It makes me feel alive. Too much of an exaggeration. OK, sorry.

The kids already made plans. They take turns sitting next to me. They want to sing Christmas carols with me and tell me their hopes and dreams. I want to sip my Diet Dr Pepper and listen. Oh yeah, and watch for oncoming traffic.

I like to drive. I should do it more often.

  1. I love road trips short ones and small ones myself. Love being in the car with my kids', seems to make conversations flow differently.

Jo Gail you are such a special lady! It makes me sad to know that you are melancholy!!! ((((JoGail))))

    Hugs, 🙂 Heather

  2. I love how the kids take turns sitting in front with you and soak up all that sweet attention.

You are a great mom to your children, and always encourage those around you.
