My Dirty Dogs

As the weather cools….the kids play outside more and more.

“Mommy! Can we go outside?!”

“Mommy! I’m done with my math. May I go outside?”

“Mommy! Shhhh…..she’s asleep. Let’s go outside.”

But even though it’s cooler (for my northern readers….we think it’s cool because it’s 80°), they still sweat.

That dirty dog smell is permeating the house.

So it’s off to the bath every night. I don’t know about you, but my boys HATE the bath. It’s a true test of their obedience because they are told to be still while I wash their hair. But it is obvious that it takes every ounce of their strength.

Tonight after the dreaded bath, I told the 6 year old to go into the nursery to pick up the toys before dinner. He isn’t the quickest one in the bunch, so he was taking a bit too long. His freshly washed 10 year old brother rushes in and says, “Hurry up! Dinner’s ready! Mommy says if we don’t hurry we might miss dinner!”

Then I hear the thing that makes my day. The sentence that makes all of the dirty dog smells worth it. The one that melts my heart.

“Oh,” says the 10 year old to his little brother ,”you know what? You go ahead to the table and I will do it for you. I love you and I don’t mind.”

That’s what it’s all about right there.

“By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35.
