Completion

It took almost the whole weekend, but we did it. We finished this crazy project. Me and my bright ideas, “Let’s just spend a couple of Saturdays replacing the floors in the kids’ room,” I said. “It will be easy,” “Let’s open up the bathroom while we’re at it.” “We’ll have such a great time together!”

Next time, will someone please cyber hit me over the head with a piece of artificial wood flooring and knock me to my senses? Please?

If you’ve ever done one of these projects then you’ll understand when I tell you, it seems like it’s never going to end. I woke up Sunday morning(after working on it all day Saturday) to the sweet, but naive, thought, “Just a few more things to do and we’re finished.” Nope.

Each one of those few things was so teeny, each leading to another teeny thing until I was lost in the maze of what-to-do-next and one-more-spot-to-caulk. I was so determined to finish it on Sunday….I mean FINISH….that I was up late into the night. I kept saying to myself, “One more spot to touch up the paint and I’m done” or, “I just need to shave that one piece of quarter round a little bit more” until I was bleary-eyed.

But it’s finished. Here is the picture of the old toilet that is about to collapse into the rotting floor (I apologize if you’re trying to eat breakfast while reading this)…

I can’t find a picture of the bathroom in it’s original state. The cabinet and shelf were painted burgundy and there was beadboard and wallpaper. We had already painted the cabinets and pulled all of the stuff off of the walls when we discovered the floor problem and I started taking pictures….just for you….my lucky blog readers.

The floor open to the elements….

The new sub floor is in and ready to tile, plus we’ve pulled off the rest of the wallpaper and repaired the walls in a few places…..

The tile is down and we’ve replaced some of the trim and painted the walls……

Just waiting for grout…….

And the finished bathroom (the shelf above the toilet that we built several years ago had to be taken down so we could cut off a bit from the bottom. Apparently our previous toilet was from the olden days when pottys were three inches shorter than they are now)……..

I didn’t even tell you about the mess behind the door. We cut an opening into the bathroom from the girl’s bedroom. Before, they had to go out of their rooms and down the hall to shower or use the bathroom. Now they have a door from their bedroom that goes straight into the bathroom. It was just another part of this great project. But we worked on it at the same time, so it seems all the same to me. It’s hard to get a good shot of it since it’s such a small bathroom, but I’ll try.

Here’s the view from standing in the shower….behind the bathroom door. Before last week, there was just a wall where the floor changes. Where the floor is the new wood used to be the inside of a closet. Now it’s a through-way to the bathroom…….

And here’s how it looks from the girl’s room. Last week you would have been looking into a dark little closet. Now, with a wave of my magic wand, you can go into the bathroom from here. Each girl has a little shelf for her own toiletries……..

I am so glad to have this project behind me.

Now we can rest. Or not. I still have other ideas in the works…..huh? What?!

Did you just hit me over the head?!

Thanks!
